Rule amendment at Royal Woodbine Golf Course

New Local Rules regarding Royal Woodbine Golf Course

A concern was raised to SGC regarding the length of Royal Woodbine golf course when teeing off from the blue tee box.  SGC’s rule indicates we play from the blue tee box if a specified golf course measures less than 6500 total yardage. Members with slightly lower level of play are becoming apprehensive and no longer feel that this course in question does not present a challenging Sunday event nor it provides a relaxing backdrop as fun was taken out of it as well.

SGC listened to the pleas and after debating the issue, decided to make a fair adjustment.

List of rules below are some of the changes. Please adhere to the new local rules next time we play Royal Woodbine and make our summer pastime enjoyable to all. This will also help maintain if not improve the pace of play.

Rules apply to holes 3 and 9 ONLY. Both are par 5s. Here are the options from the tee box area:

  1. Hitting from the blue tee: if you land your ball in the fescue area just in front of the teeing ground area, you have the option of hitting the ball as it lies (no penalty) or do not even bother look for your ball but drop a ball in the red tee box area. Add one stroke penalty for your third shot.
  2. OB rule still applies regardless where you are hitting from. You are NOT allowed to drop a ball in the red tee box area just in case you hit your ball OB. Re-tee from the blue tee with stroke and distance penalty. Rule 1 mentioned above applies if you land your third shot in the fescue area.
  3. Stake hazard rule still applies.

Week 14

Congratulations to the winners of last Sunday’s round at Lionhead Masters. Three people – Jojo D., Eddie I. & Seho O., tied for lowest net scores of 70. For players of the month, three players shared the honours of tying for first – Seho O., Joey C., & Saed J.

We welcome Eddie I. & Saed J. for getting to the winner’s circle the first time around. Noticeable names of consistent winners keep appearing week by week,  Seho O. & Joey C. The Master course was a challenging course as signposted by most of the player’s high gross scores. Once again we give credit to those who carded respectable scores.

Thunderstorm threatened our tee off but never materialized throughout the whole round.  The only thing that was a little disappointing was our start time being moved back by almost 45 minutes.

Finally, SGC would like to thank the DeOcas (Nelly & Pat) for inviting us to a barbecue dinner after the round of golf. There was an abundance of food and drinks.  According to Pat D., it was Nelly’s idea to have an annual gathering for the whole SGC at their place. Nice to see Tom B. who happened  to be helping served us at the dinner gathering. Hope he is doing OK and be back playing again.

Hope to see more players for next week’s SuperSeries Sunday most specially, Rey M.

Week 12

Congratulations to another week of low net score of 69 for Rey P. It’s two games in a row for Rey P. He leads the race to Month 3 but there is two more weeks to go. Seho O. heads the lowest net of 12 games for POY 2012. Thirteen more games to go as it is a little early and enough games to catch up with for the rest of us. It was scorching heat yesterday. Players are advised to be cautious playing in the heat next week.

SGC would like to send a belated congratulation to a double-winner in last month’s week 10 & SuperSeries 2 winner Levi M. Other players who hauled in SuperSries 2  money – Sennix B. & Manny M. who tied for second place and Rey P. came in fourth. It was a tight race for there was only 3-stroke difference between the winner and fourth place.

Week 11

Happy Canada Day!!

Congratulations to Sunday’s winners at Royal Woodbine. Rey P. net scored amazing 64. Mike M. eagled the 12th par 5 hole for a well earned $50. Also worth mentioning is Seho O’s grossed 39 on the back nine as well as three more players scoring low net round in the 60’s – Joey C., Saed S., & Mar DV. It was a beautiful Canada day but a little disappointing as the bar closed when we finished play.

We are happy to see Rey M. taking a break and playing again. Keep up the spirit Rey.

Reminder: Please confirm your attendance every week to Jimmy M. on or before Wednesday’s deadline.

Week 7

Congratulations to last Sunday’s winners. Jun P. and Oscar J. scored low net of 69. It was close to being a miserable day because of intermittent rain as well as pouring rain all day the day before our round making the golf course longer. The wind did not help our game either.

Special thanks to Pat D. who celebrated a belated b-day for treating the boys drinks and chicken wings at the Clubhouse after the round. Those who stayed sang a chorus of b-day song to Pat.

Week 6

Congratulations to yesterday’s winners. Joey C. notched a low net of 68. After taking the honours last week for posting the lowest net score, Joey professed to the few of us who dared to listen that it was the very same ball that he used the Sunday prior. We guessed that he’d be using that same ball again this week.  Sennix B. & Bong M. happened to tie for the lowest front. Kudos to Julio R. for earning an extra $50 for an eagle. He drove the 10th green and made an 8-footer.

Perfect  weather was in display and twenty-seven players showed up. Could the $40 green fee and $12 for power cart attributed to good attendance? What a bargain huh?

We welcome back Tom B., Manny M. and Jimmy M. who just had his Pinas adventures for a month.

See you all this Sunday and good luck!

Reminder: Please come early around 1:00 PM for a shotgun start. We are suspicious of getting an early tee off time

Week 5

Congratulations to the winners of last Sunday’s round. Joey C. posted an incredible lowest net of 67. Few other players accomplished the feat of scoring in the 60’s – Levi M, Sennix B., Don D., & Rey P. It was ridiculously hot & beautiful day as 24 players battled out the heat to compete. We welcome back Bong M. who played his first game and we are expecting more players to show up soon to our summer sessions.

See ya all next week at Century Pines. Good luck!

Week 4

Congratulations to Week 4 & Month 1 winners. Much kudos to Seho Oh for scoring the lowest net round of 66. In return, Seho topped the honours of winning both. It was an impressive Month 1 win as Jojo D. was almost a cinch to win Month 1 before  last Sunday’s round at Royal Woodbine. Sorry Jo.

Weather wise, a beautiful afternoon. Nice to see familar faces showing up for yesterday’s round – Jun Paculaba, Rey Plaza, Tony Pena, Ed Penas, and Saed Jafari. Hopefully, we will see these people competing soon: Carina Velardo, Tom Beltran, Bong Munson, Manny Marquez, Nick Dizon, Stafford Moore, PJ Paredes, Jimmy Manguerra and Lina Mayo.

See ya all next week and good luck!
