SGC got the best of the playing conditions at Royal Woodbine last Sunday with our two o’clock tee time. The weather was a little cooler than usual but darkened skies calm conditions and alas, showers threatened at the latter part of the afternoon but did not happen. Most of the thirty members who showed up with three guests took advantage of using rain check vouchers granted by the golf course nine weeks ago due to unfortunate storm winding up with a round cancellation. Some played for free, others paid minimal amounts.
ROUND: You know what, it is nice to see a wily veteran getting back to his “those were the days” form after suffering from different physical setbacks from previous years. Jun P. who is having a monster month, shot the best net of 64. In the best gross score category, Jimmy M. ranks with one of those players who practices and works hard, finished the day with best gross score of 74. Worth mentioning as well were good net score efforts from Don D. (65), Ed I. (66), Manny M. (68), Dave N. (68), & Mar DV (69).
NASSAU: Don D. with impressive performance so far, seized overall as well as tying the front nine with Manny M. Ed I. appeared to notch another prize by snatching the back.
CLOSEST TO THE PIN: Manny M. got it going early by really shooting it so close on the par 3 fourth hole. Bingoy P. who up to now could not still believe his luck, got the closest on the tenth hole. Both gents birdied the hole.
MONTH 4: Jun P. who entered the Sunday event trailing Dave N. by huge five points capped the honours with a blitzing net of 64 winning it by three strokes over Dave. I was in awe and happened to witness Jun’s run for the monthly title as I was in a couple of times in a foursome with him. Don D. with another good showing jumped from fourth to grab final prize of third place.
POY: Not so much happening here as top four leaders stayed all the same as they were a week ago. Only change was the final spot of fifth place that went to Paolo B. (878) dropping Seho O. (882) to sixth place tying PJ P. who still looks promising to contend for the final spot. Top four: Manny M. (854), Ed I. (858), Jimmy M. (861), & Levi M. (872).
SENIOR POY: After completed ten rounds, Seho O. (743) now leads followed closely by the unstoppable Jun P. (745). Mar DV. (746) tied with another player in third place and Exe N. (761) trailing in fifth place. Projection still stands that the surging Jun P. will end up atop the leaderboard challenge by Bingoy P. who still leads everyone in all eight rounds he played.
MIP: It is only a matter of time before this player gets to the trophy presentation and Manny C. holding the trophy up high. Statistics show in reality that there is only one person who can mount a likely challenge to Manny’s feat with six games to go. Jimmy M. who is still a tad to improve his ending handicap index will have to post low scores in the remaining games.
Inspiring to see most of SGC’s contests are tightly and well contested. Hats off to support of people who made our event off to a very good start. You very well know who you are. As far as the competitions go, everyone is still looking forward of competing for whatever is offered. I still see enormous fire in those player’s eyes trying to catch up with the leaders and no one seems giving up that easily.
We welcome back Rey P. to our Sunday past time after a very long hiatus.
Congrats to the winners!
I guess I missed the memo … Jimmy, when did the Sierra website become a pulpit 🙂
Good on you Jun!
Hmmm….i guess the race is heating up. The war of words is starting ;). Balantrae is a new battle ground. Thx JM, we’ll bring etiquette, ‘ready golf’, and a little consideration and common sense to the game; after all it’s a sport of foursome. Game ON!!!
oh since i’m in a good mood i thought i would share this with you all so that you know where the OB and water hazards are in Ballantrae and can remind yourself to DON’T HIT IT THERE. you should try that on Sunday, you’ll be surprise the power of the word DON’T. LOL

As per what the web master said. all of SGC contests are “tightly and well contested” and there’s plenty on the line so I thought I’de put up some tips and advice on pace of play, playing with some golf etiquette and respect to your playing partners and the golf course.
We all know that our behaviour on the course affects our playing partners good or bad. I admit that I’m not your best example (hahaha) but I also would not be throwing clubs or will not damage golf course property just because I couldn’t eagle the previous hole unless it was provoked by others around me. I should really just take my anger on that person but since we’re a group of 4, I’ll just do my best to make sure all 4 of us suffer and up to the other 3 to figure out who’s fault is it and hopefully fix it.
I’ve been hearing and noticing that some of us are not raking bunkers and driving golf cart to the fairway & green of par 3 holes.
Pace of Play Tips
– Each member of a group should proceed directly to his or her ball. The group should not travel as a pack, going first to one ball, then the next, and so on.
– While walking (or riding) to your ball, use the travel time to begin thinking over your next shot – the yardage, which club you’ll use, and so on. Begin preparing before you get to your ball.
– If sharing a cart, don’t drive to the first ball, wait for the first player to hit, then head to the second ball. Drop the first player off at his ball, drive on ahead to the second ball. The first player should walk over to the cart as the second player is playing his shot.
– When using a cart on a cart-path-only day, be sure to take a couple of clubs with you when you walk from the cart to the ball. This way, you won’t have to return to the cart if you discover you didn’t bring the appropriate club.
– Carry a few extra tees and ball markers in your pockets so you don’t have to return to your golf bag to retrieve them, should you find yourself in need of one.
– When you think your shot might have landed out of bounds or be lost, immediately hit a provisional ball. Don’t walk ahead to search, only to have to return to the original spot to replay a shot.
– Never hold up play because you’re in the middle of a conversation. Put the conversation on hold, take your stroke, and then continue the conversation.
– On the green, begin lining up your putt and reading the break as soon as you reach the green. When it’s your turn to putt, be prepared to step right up and take the stroke.
– Leave your bags or golf carts to the side of the green, and in the direction of the next tee, never in front of the green.
– Never stand on or next to the green after holing out in order to write down your score.Write it down when you reach the next tee.
– If all else fails, try playing “ready golf,” which simply means that order of play is based on who’s ready, not who’s away.
Ready golf is great as long as you don’t tell someone else who’s ready to hit that its your turn when you’re away but didn’t get to your ball faster than the other guy.
Wow great month for Jun. anyone of the top 5 for this month was good enuf to win on previous month. I thought Dave was lock for the month, I guess not… No lead is good Sergio lol.
