Week 19

Hats off to Royal Woodbine winners last Sunday. Julio R. led the way with a dazzling net of 61. Much kudos to Fred H. for hanging on to win the Month 4 contest with an inspiring total best net 3 of 4 scores of 208 followed by Jimmy M. with a 210. Saed J. who came out of nowhere placed third with 214. Not much change regarding the race to POY as the leaders almost stayed the same where they are. Rey P. flashing a promising climb to fifth place. Saed and Levi M. could be well joining the fray with the leaders if they continue their good play to the end.

Closest to the pin winners: Joey C. on the 10th and Manny C. got the 14th.

Royal Woodbine’s management surprised us with a bombshell yesterday by moving some of the blue tee boxes way back. Most of them were much closed to gold tee boxes. Was it because there was an Italian league ahead of us? Wasn’t this on the contrary to speed up the game just because it was a tournament? Anyway despite of all these, Don D. left us in astonishment as he drove the ninth par 5 hole in the middle of the fairway closed to 150 yard marker. He and Mar DV.  amazingly secured a safe way drive on the 12 hole par 5 as well.  Seb DM. showed us flashes of worthy long club hits but a little hard pressed on his short game in our opinion. He’s such a low key person that nothing seems to bother him as he plods along. Don’t we wish we could all duplicate his demeanor at the least on the golf course?

With six games to go, hopefully more players are going to show up. SuperSeries next week at KF.

GOLF POEM

In my hand I hold a ball
White and dimpled, rather small.
Oh, how bland it does appear,
This harmless looking little sphere.

By his size I could not guess
The awesome strength it does possess;
My life has not been quite the same
Since I choose to play this stupid game.

I rule my mind for hours on end.
A fortune it has made me spend.
It has made me curse and cry
I hate myself and want to die.

I am promised a thing called ‘par’
If I can hit it straight and far.
To master such a tiny ball
Should not be very hard at all.

But my desires the ball refuses
And does exactly as it chooses.
It hooks and slices, dribbles, dies
and disappears before my eyes.

Often it will have a whim
To hit a tree or take a swim.
With miles of grass on which to land
It finds a tiny patch of sand.

Then has me offering up my soul
If it will just drop in the hole.
It made me whimper like a pup,
and swear that I will give it up.

And take to drink to ease my sorrow.
But The Ball knows…I’ll be back tomorrow.

Week 18

Long stuck in not playing until late May of this year, Jimmy M. won his first round of golf last Sunday finishing with a remarkable1-under 71 to beat Manny C. by six strokes. He also contends as best bet for monthly honors with total two-week net score of 136 replacing Fred H. for top position as we are headed to the final week of the month at Royal Woodbine. Jojo D. tails Fred H. by a stroke for third place seven strokes behind first place.

There is some movement in the POY race. Sennix B. zooming in to third place trading places with Joey C. They way to look at it, aspirant players with good nine net scores still have a chance to jockey for top position with seven games to go. Seho O. still leads the entire pack.

It was an ideal weather for a round of golf yesterday with cloudy periods hovering above. We welcome Stafford Moore for showing up and stayed a little while for a chit chat with the boys after the round.

With summer season winding down, hope to see more players next week at RW.

Week 17

Congratulations to the winners of last Sunday’s round at Westview. Levi M.  carded an impressive low net of 65. Sennix B. took care of seizing the front nine. SGC welcomes a pleasant surprise about who leads the race to month four after just two games. It’s none other than the incomparable Mr. Fred H. who incurred a combined total net score of 142 with two games left.  Whatever happened to the young guns? Searing Bingoy P.  followed with two net game totals of 145. Four other people closely tied for third with 146 – Jojo D., Jimmy M., Seho O., & Nap P. There is still a chance for players to catch up as well as those who got a game in from the past two weeks.  Anything can happen, folks!

Winners of closest to the pin contest: Julio R. & Bingoy P.

Race to POY is becoming an interesting race after all. Not much change here as Seho O. still leads with Jojo D. & Joey C. switching chairs again for second and third positions respectively. You have to admire the consistent play of Seho O. Even Exe N. was overheard saying, “It’s hard to beat Seho with his steady and all-around play”.  With eight games to go, players to reckon with are those who came up with low net scores in nine games – Sennix B., Levi M., Rey P., Ed I., and Nap P. to mention a few.

It was an ideal weather with a threat of rain that never really turned up.  Competition was high as ever. Excitement was all over before and after the round as usual together with frustrations, defeats, and successes but there is always the next time.

SGC would like to appreciate the tireless effort of Don D. and Bingoy P. of chasing everybody around for the collection of ‘funds’ week in & week out. Believe it folks; they are like bartenders who hear everything from players every time they do their volunteering chores. Not to mention Jimmy M’s handling the headaches of supervising the weekly attendance.  Hey Bong M., SGC values your effort in running the closest to the pin contest for making the round more competitive.

See ya all next week!

Week 16

Congratulations to the winners of last Sunday’s round at KF. Who said there is no fun in a ‘blind partner’ game? Someone shot net 69 but watched someone else took home the first prize. It was a close contest and three tied for first place with partnership of combined net score of 142 – Lina M./Fred H., Nap P./Seho O., and Jimmy M. /Jojo D. Jojo won the low net back nine as well. Mike M. made a sterling eagle on the short par 4 third hole.

It was an ideal weather neither so hot nor cold when the first foursome teed off until a burst of showers and sporadic flashes of lightning stopped play approaching the ninth hole. The nature of the course changed drastically as well as player’s perspective playing a round.  Players could be heard standing over a shot murmuring a sigh of frustrations. Weather forecast got it right this time as they predicted showers in the afternoon. Luckily for us, rain died away slowly and play resumed. It was somewhere in the back nine that the sun shone as players started to get rid of their rain gears. Few white tee boxes were moved forward as management claimed that there was a tournament ahead of us and did not bother moving them back. This was pure delight to players who are not considered as power hitters.

Players stayed after the round for a get together dinner compliments of SGC.
