Achievements:

  • Meet the 2019 GTA (Greater Toronto Association) Interleague Golf Champions: the Sierra Golf Club. This is the second time SGC won this event held at Copetown Woods Golf & Country Club on June 29, 2019. SGC won this annual event by a convincing victory over five other golf organizations on its GTA tenth anniversary. A combination of splendid performance by crafty veterans and new members, SGC pulled away with the championship trophy.
  • 2016 GTA (Greater Toronto Association) Gemini Cup Champions beating four other golf organizations in an interleague tournament held every year.
  • On November 8, 2013 Super Typhoon Haiyan also known in the Philippines as Typhoon Yolanda hit this country. The typhoon was considered one of the strongest storms in world history based on maximum wind speed of 220 mph producing a deadly storm gush and heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding in central Philippines. Initial death toll reported was approximately 2300 but expected the number to climb up much more. Members of Sierra Golf Club reacted quickly and since volunteering services amongst the members were not a reality, Sierra Golf Club promptly made a move to attain the pinnacle of one its goals by raising a total of $3300 humanitarian aid to the Philippine typhoon devastation. SGC was proud to act hastily to the heartfelt intentions of its members by offering this donation. On November 18, 2013 our SGC President, Joey Cruz was able to deliver personally the much-needed contribution to GMA Kapuso Organization in the Philippines with specific request that the money went directly to the survivors in the Visayas region.
  • Donated $500 worth of food to feed evacuees of the three-week siege in Zamboanga City in late September 2013.
  • On August 12, 2013 SGC donated $1000 to a non-government organization in the Philippines, GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc. whose main concept is providing service and uplifting the lives of underprivileged Filipinos.
  • Donated $500 on July 2013 to help ease the financial burden of bringing the family of Alberto Guerrero, who has terminal lung & liver cancer, to San Diego, California from the Philippines.
  • Diverted $500 to the cause of Filipina caregiver Girlie Gioquino who died suddenly without any relatives in Canada.
  • Hosted a fund raising golf tournament in honor of a fallen SGC member.
