Twenty-four degrees Celsius with a threat of rain that never happened at last Sunday’s round 16 at Westview golf course. Only eighteen players plus two guests showed up. Was it because of a long weekend? Or was it the course itself to blame for the dwindling attendance? A number of players found a hefty time to score low as indicated by the winning net score of 72 the last time SGC played here last June. It was the same story this Sunday.
Nassau winners: One of our newcomers, Jess Velarde took the front nine. This new member just joined the club of long hitters; a real threat for grabbing some prizes in the remaining SGC’s stretch run. Watch out. Bert C. seized the back nine and total net score of 71.
Closest to the pin contest: What about this – a swept of winning par threes by a wily veteran, Jun Paculaba. He won both Middle’s seventh hole and Lakeland’s fourth hole. As a matter of fact, players in the same group with Jun were telling us that he nearly aced the fourth hole as his shot hit the pin.
ANNOUNCEMENT: This Sunday’s event is a special one. A mandatory ‘Blind Partner’ contest is in the offing as well as SGC’s offer of hamburger sandwich dinner with all the trimmings of course after the round at Kingsforest. To those new members who are wondering what ‘Blind Partner’ is all about – it is the lowest total net score of the round of two players in a partnership. Partners are selected via a draw and that is where it has got its name from. Top three lowest partnership net scores win a prize.
Please be reminded that Kingsforest’s tee off time is at 11:00 o’clock AM. Also, be mindful of the traffic along the QEW that may occur on your way to the golf course. So, come early. Try not to forget confirming your attendance for this Sunday.
