Rule amendment at Royal Woodbine Golf Course

New Local Rules regarding Royal Woodbine Golf Course

A concern was raised to SGC regarding the length of Royal Woodbine golf course when teeing off from the blue tee box.  SGC’s rule indicates we play from the blue tee box if a specified golf course measures less than 6500 total yardage. Members with slightly lower level of play are becoming apprehensive and no longer feel that this course in question does not present a challenging Sunday event nor it provides a relaxing backdrop as fun was taken out of it as well.

SGC listened to the pleas and after debating the issue, decided to make a fair adjustment.

List of rules below are some of the changes. Please adhere to the new local rules next time we play Royal Woodbine and make our summer pastime enjoyable to all. This will also help maintain if not improve the pace of play.

Rules apply to holes 3 and 9 ONLY. Both are par 5s. Here are the options from the tee box area:

  1. Hitting from the blue tee: if you land your ball in the fescue area just in front of the teeing ground area, you have the option of hitting the ball as it lies (no penalty) or do not even bother look for your ball but drop a ball in the red tee box area. Add one stroke penalty for your third shot.
  2. OB rule still applies regardless where you are hitting from. You are NOT allowed to drop a ball in the red tee box area just in case you hit your ball OB. Re-tee from the blue tee with stroke and distance penalty. Rule 1 mentioned above applies if you land your third shot in the fescue area.
  3. Stake hazard rule still applies.
