GOLF DEFINITIONS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

ADDRESS<\/strong><\/p>\n

A player has \u201c<\/span>addressed the ball\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/em> when he has grounded his club immediately in front of or immediately behind the ball, whether or not he has taken his <\/span>stance<\/span><\/a><\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ball in bunker<\/strong> –\u00a0a ball is in a <\/span>bunker<\/span><\/a><\/em> when it lies in or any part of it touches the <\/span>bunker<\/span><\/a><\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Burrowing Animal<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A \u201c<\/span>burrowing animal<\/span><\/a><\/em>\u201d is an animal (other than a worm, insect or the like) that makes a hole for habitation or shelter, such as a rabbit, mole, groundhog, gopher or salamander. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Note:<\/span><\/strong> A hole made by a non-burrowing animal, such as a dog, is not an <\/span>abnormal ground condition<\/span><\/span><\/a> unless marked or declared as <\/span>ground under repair<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Casual Water<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Casual water<\/span><\/a><\/em>\u2019\u2019 is any temporary accumulation of water on the <\/span>course<\/span><\/a><\/em> that is not in a <\/span>water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> and is visible before or after the player takes his <\/span>stance<\/span><\/a><\/em>. Snow and natural ice, other than frost, are either <\/span>casual water<\/span><\/a><\/em> or <\/span>loose impediments<\/span><\/a><\/em>, at the option of the player. Manufactured ice is an <\/span>obstruction<\/span><\/a><\/em>. Dew and frost are not <\/span>casual water<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A ball is in <\/span>casual water<\/span><\/a><\/em> when it lies in or any part of it touches the <\/span>casual water<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Immovable obstruction <\/span><\/strong>– anything that is artificial or made by man including surfaces. If your stance and swing but not line of play are affected by it, free relief with one club length from the (NPR) nearest point of relief.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lateral Water Hazard<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A \u201c<\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em>\u201d is a <\/span>water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> or that part of a <\/span>water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> so situated that it is not possible, or is deemed by the <\/span>Committee<\/span><\/a><\/em> to be impracticable, to drop a ball behind the <\/span>water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> in accordance with Rule <\/span><\/span><\/span>26-Ib<\/span><\/span><\/a>. All ground and water within the margin of a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> are part of the <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When the margin of a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> is defined by stakes, the stakes are inside the <\/span><\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/span><\/a>,<\/span><\/em> and the margin of the <\/span>hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> is defined by the nearest outside points of the stakes at ground level. When both stakes and lines are used to indicate a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em>, the stakes identify the <\/span>hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> and the lines define the <\/span>hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> margin. When the margin of a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> is defined by a line on the ground, the line itself is in the <\/span><\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/em> The margin of a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> extends vertically upwards and downwards. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A ball is in a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> when it lies in or any part of it touches the <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Stakes used to define the margin of or identify a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> are <\/span>obstructions<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Note 1:<\/span><\/strong> That part of a <\/span>water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> to be played as a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> must be distinctively marked. Stakes or lines used to define the margin of or identify a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> must be red. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Note 2:<\/span><\/strong> The <\/span>Committee<\/span><\/a><\/em> may make a Local Rule prohibiting play from an environmentally-sensitive area defined as a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Note 3:<\/span><\/strong> The <\/span>Committee<\/span><\/a><\/em> may define a <\/span>lateral water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em> as a <\/span>water hazard<\/span><\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
